New Zealand's Most Natural Children's Food Range

Boosting your child's immune system

Keep you and your family healthy by ensuring you eat plenty of immune boosting foods.

Paediatrician Dr Alan Green says, "A fully functioning immune system is what keeps your children healthy." (Natural Health Magazine).

In order to maintain a healthy and strong immune system, fresh and natural food is key.

♥ Vitamin C is particularly important in boosting immunity and also helps the body absorb iron. Iron helps strengthen the immune defences. Good sources are citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons, kiwi fruit, broccoli and fresh thyme.

♥ Vitamin A plays a critical role in enhancing immune function. Good sources are kumara, carrot, and spinach.

♥ Garlic is identified as one of the best ways to boost and strengthen your child’s immune system. This amazing food contains anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. Garlic stimulates the immune cells and increases antibody production. It also contains the compound sulphur which has potent antioxidant properties.

TIP:  You can add garlic into your child’s favourite meals such as pasta dishes like spaghetti bolognese or chicken fettuccine.

Smoothies are a great way to get nutrients into the body. Add ingredients such as:

  • raw spinach
  • ginger
  • orange peel
  • turmeric
  • honey (for kids ages 12 months +)
  • raw carrot - skin on
  • berries such as blueberries and strawberries
  • bananas
  • milk - dairy or non dairy
  • yoghurt with probiotics
